last night i saw a conversation with ira glass(please be my husband??) and israeli writer/filmmaker etgar keret. they spoke in the beautiful basement of the new york public library (nypl sounds like nipple. good one!) and i enjoyed it so much. the conversation spanned topics from the conflict in the middle east to talking fish to his new short story to the deconstruction of the phrase "actually, i have been having phenomenal hard ons lately" gahhhh. so funny. what was one of my favorite parts of the evening was when keret spoke about writing a well-written story versus a good story written poorly. i wish i had recorded him because he spoke about it in a way that felt like he was channeling the way I feel about life and all art making. not that all of life is art making (but it kind of is.....)what it came down to is that these two guys are amazing storytellers who really get to the core of a situation while making them interesting and dynamic.
