  1. Is nothing sacred? hmm - sic transit sacra.

keep in mind that you did buy the shirt from Urban Outfitters - another nation-wide hub for youth hegemony. It may be a lesser evil but...

  2. this is true.. partially.. everything forever 21 sells, urban sold first.. the difference is that obsesity and speed is so much smaller than lets say BDG

What store is not a "hub for youth hegemony"?... the only reason people buy "hip" clothing is to one up eachother

this is why designers make lines for target

  3. Hmm Idk I would argue that hegemony isn't the goal of "one uping one another" but rather find comfort in being the same. Most people who wear "hip" clothing do so in order to feel included in a certain set of people. Urban and forever 21, and designer lines for target attempt to market those who follow "hip" trends not those who make them. I don't think I need to get into the difference between the creation of a style and the amalgomation of that style into a trend.

The idea of "one uping eachother" begins when individuals feel the need to further assert themselves into the group their conforming to. It's a way to feel some sort of personal ownership over one what has become (through conforming). A cyclical process let's say.
